Kate and Dylan were working on word problems for math today. I told them that word problems are real life and that someday dylans word problem may be to calculate the velocity of a roller coaster heading downhill at 45 degrees. A minute or two later, Dylan said," by the way aunt Sherri, how do you measure angles anyway?". I happily pulled out the compass and launched into a full discussion about measuring angles, types of angles, triangles, and a little vector physics with gravity and friction. Dylan was totally into it and we drew some sample coasters and measured their angles. Fun! Real life learning!

House plans
In our discussion of are and perimeter, I talked about how builders need measurements from plans to figure out the materials they need. Then, because they were interested, I did a rough drawing of our downstairs house plan and we looked up house plans on the internet. When I left for basketball, this is what Dylan (purple) and drew (green) spent a long time on.

Drew learning numbers
He knows all of his numbers even in the hundreds, but he still struggles with 16 vs 61, 15 vs 51, etc, so he was reading these sentences to try to figure out these numbers.

After Daddy Daughter Date Night...
I (Sherri) asked Drew: "When are you going to take me on a date?" After pondering for a little bit, he said, "I can't even drive yet!"
