Trip to North Carolina
We went to Charlotte, NC for Kate's soccer tournament this weekend. They played against highly ranked teams one and two years older than they were and lost two games 3-2 and won one game 4-0. Kate scored in the first game and they played great soccer.
We left a day early to visit UNC and Duke. The first stop was the UNC Women's Soccer facility. This program is the biggest dynasty in college sports. The head coach has the best winning percentage of any college coach ever and he walked past us in the hallway a couple of times while one of the assistant coaches showed us around. We then walked the UNC football stadium and barely got into the Dean Smith Center because there was a scheduled tour group that arrived at the same time we did.
We then went to Duke and because of a big campus event, we had to park much farther from Cameron that we wanted to. We parked next to the Sarah P. Duke gardens and it just so happened that the tulips were in full bloom. They were gorgeous! We then walked past the Duke Chapel and to Cameron Indoor Stadium. We are guessing it's because they just won the national championship, but it was open and we were able to take as many pictures as we wanted! There were at most 10 people in the gym area with us during the time we were taking pictures.
The hotel was Drew and Ben's favorite ever because it had a great little basketball court. Drew was challenged to shooting competitions by one of the soccer parents who was a serious basketball player. On the first day of competition, Drew was 3-2. On the second morning, Drew lost all three times, but two of the times were 10-9.
On the way to Kate's first game, we got an indicator that we had a tire problem and there was a bad nail in the tire. Sadly, Chris had to miss the first game getting the tire repaired.
We had a team dinner at Wild Wing Cafe and the girls had a great time. Ben ordered fried shrimp and mac and cheese for dinner. Drew ordered a pizza with broccoli. When Ben finished eating, he came over and said, "I want what Drew has now." I told him that he was already finished with his food and he said, "but I"m still hungry. Can I eat Drew's last piece?" Drew wanted the last piece, so he proceeded to eat the lettuce off of Chris's plate. We gave him more food in the car, but he fell asleep before he could eat much of it. This is normal life for the child we think is our future 7 footer.
All in all, it was a fabulous trip. Gram took care of Reagan, so she was way happier than she usually is when we leave. We really appreciated that!
