Ben's 30 Month Check-Up
concerns were with the little knot in his neck (his swollen lymph node
that's been there for a while) and the tube in his right ear that is
loose. He fell asleep in the car on the way and was still asleep on
my shoulder when the nurse needed him undressed down to his underwear,
so the poor thing had quite the rude awakening - clothes being
snatched off at the doctor's office. He weighed in at 31.8 lbs (72%),
38.5" (93%), and 20" head circumference (92%). He was supposed to get
measured laying down, but the nurse discovered he was too long for
that and we had to measure him standing up. I'm sure he's a little
taller than 38.5 because he was still screaming from his rude
awakening and not really standing up straight.
Everything checked out fine (we are so thankful every time) and Drew
and Kate had to help at different times in the check-up to make Ben
more accepting of whatever instrument the doctor was going to use on
him next. For example, Ben was very anxious about getting his ears
checked (as usual), so Dr. Smiley asked if she should check Drew's
ears first. Drew was a great trooper and let her check his ears with
a smile. When Dr. Smiley approached Ben, he said, "What about Kate"?
This caused Dr. Smiley to turn around and check Kate's ears before Ben
would let her check his. That's the only part of the check-up I had
to hold him down for. Otherwise, he maintained a cute little dialogue
with the doctor the whole time.
Possibly the funniest thing ever to happen at the doctor occurred
today as well. While Ben was waiting for Dr. Smiley to go through his
records and start his check-up, he looked down and said, "Look, here
is my nipple and here is my other nipple. Kate has nipples too." Dr.
Smiley looked puzzled and I had to tell her that he in fact said what
she probably thought he had said. I then had to go on to explain
that he kept saying they were boo boos for a while and we finally told
him that they were his nipples and everyone has them. He also
informed the doctor that he had a boo boo on his knee and told her the
story about how Avie pushed him.
At the end of the check-up, he told Dr. Smiley that he had an Animal
shirt. He said, "I like Beaker too." Then he said, "Beaker says mee
mee mee mee and Animal says Mama oo oo oo oooh", so I had to explain
about the two videos on youtube.
Oh - and no vaccinations needed. Yay for a very pleasant check-up.

Ben's prayers
for when he prays. The other day at nap time, he said "thank you
Beaker" and then right in the middle he said, "and thank you
basketball". This morning, he said "thank you pajamas" and "thank you
zebras". Of course, he always says the normal things like "please
help MaMa get better", "thank you Grandmama's house", "thank you
Gram" and "thank you Mommy and Daddy". At meal times, because Dylan
says this, he started saying his own version: "please help food
neweesh (nourish) ow (our) bodies".
This morning, he also woke up early (6:30am) and instead of just
coming to our room, he decided he wanted to see Kate and he went and
woke her up first. His big sister didn't take very kindly to that
(she is not a morning person), so they both ended up asleep in our bed
(since Daddy was already up for work, they had room).

Why I loved homeschool today
Kate and Dylan were working on word problems for math today. I told them that word problems are real life and that someday dylans word problem may be to calculate the velocity of a roller coaster heading downhill at 45 degrees. A minute or two later, Dylan said," by the way aunt Sherri, how do you measure angles anyway?". I happily pulled out the compass and launched into a full discussion about measuring angles, types of angles, triangles, and a little vector physics with gravity and friction. Dylan was totally into it and we drew some sample coasters and measured their angles. Fun! Real life learning!

Funny words from Ben
He just asked me if he could jump on the ballerina. I said, "do you mean the trampoline?" He said, "yeah!"
